“For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world?  Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” (1Jn.5:4-5 NIV)

These days, with the thrills of the Olympic games,  we have been considering eternal crowns and everlasting glory.  These games are thrilling for a time, but the glory passes away, yet God is calling people through Christ to eternal glory. All around us, we are offered the temporary with all its immediate satisfaction  “but we are to fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”(2Co.4:18 NIV)

We are told in the first mentioned scripture that our faith is the victory that overcomes the world.  If the object of our faith is the temporary glamor that is offered by this world, we will find disappointment. If our trust is in ourselves to win over the difficulties and hardships, that all men face, this will brings us to despair  The only sure victory of our faith over this world’s challenges is if it centered in Jesus Christ. Who overcomes? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. Our sins are forgiven and we become children of God.  We have a new life freely given. We step; into a new kingdom, a kingdom not of this world.

We can build a true relationship; with this one who is the Way, the Truth and the Life.  We can personally fellowship with God.  We can lay up treasure for the world that is to come.  The object of our faith (trust) is Jesus. He has promised never to leave us no matter what the world offers; pain or pomp, Christ will lead us to fullness of eternal life.   .
