“...I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me...But one thing I do...I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Phil.3:12-14 NIV) .

“I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection of the dead.” (Phil.3:10-11 NIV)

The real Christian life begins as we come to Christ; put our trust in him as our savior.  We are born again by the Holy Spirit, We become children of God in reality. This is the beginning!

Then we are challenged by the apostle, as believers, in Phil.2:5,8. Let Christ’s attitude be ours.  When Christ found himself as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient, even to death on a cross.  Result! (v9-11) Eternal Exaltation!

.

We are to work out (develop, lay hold of) our salvation in the same manner. Paul said to the Roman Christians  “Now if we are children (of God), then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order to share in his glory.” What does Paul mean as he speaks of suffering?  It seems clear he is speaking of taking Christ’s attitude of humility and obedience to God’s purpose for our lives. God has a plan for each of us. Let’s set our hearts to follow Christ into his purpose.  He will lead clearly. We will get to know him better and prepare ourselves to share in Christ’s glory in the ages to come.  “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”  (Ro.8:18 NIV)
