“...though now for a little while you may have to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.  These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold , which perishes even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.” (1 Pet. 1:6-7 NIV)

Trials come to prove that our faith is genuine!  When we go to buy an auto, we usually take it for a drive; try it out. We want to know it is genuine.  The Bible tells us that our faith is worth more than Gold.  To God it is so valuable, and to prove it he sends trials our way to test the quality of our faith.  Remember, Peter says, it is only for a little while.  These difficulties seem, to us, to last a long time, but the reward of walking in faith and praise will last forever.  Peter makes it clear that the reward is praise, honor and glory when the Lord Jesus returns.

“No discipline (hardship) seems pleasant at the time, but painful.” (Heb.12:11NIV) Yet the fruit is worthwhile. “Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.” (Heb. 12:12 NIV)  We might paraphrase; Yes, it is difficult, but I am going to straighten up. I am not going to give into self-pity. I am going to trust God and praise him for his love and faithfulness.  It is all working for my good!  The Lord is my shepherd. He is leading, and goodness and mercy are following me, all the days of my life and I will dwell in the Lord’s house forever! (Ps.23:1,6)

“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. (2 Co.4:17 NIV)  Wow!  Let’s trust God and walk with him!
