“This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.  Who is it that overcomes the World?  Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” (1 Jn.5:4-5 NIV)

The world and its activities are all about us.  Everywhere you look and go, you find its influence.  This falls into two general categories. First, the disappointments of life. In the parable of the sower (Lu.8:11-15) Jesus talks of those who hear the word and rejoice in it, but when but when trouble or persecution comes because of the word (message), they quickly fall away.  In following Jesus, as our Lord and shepherd, does not mean  a life of harmony and ease.  Jesus said “in this world you shall have trouble.”  Things happen we do not anticipate; sorrows and disappointments come to us. That is part of the challenge of faith. As believers, we see Christ as our helper. He makes all things work for our eternal good.(Ro.8:28)  We are trusting the one who sits at God’s right hand for our sake. We can trust him even when we don’t have all the answers and the challenges seem impossible to overcome. God will make a way where there seems to be no way!

In the same parable, Jesus speaks of the “thorns” that can spring up; riches and pleasures. These things seem to be ever present to tempt us away from a dedicated life to the One who died and rose for the dead.  He will lead us in God’s way that will produce eternal fruit; treasures in an eternal kingdom that never passes away.

We have come to know Christ. He is God’s way to lasting “valuables”.   Keep this relationship strong. He will cause us to overcome all the things that would sidetrack us from a victorious life and lasting fruit.
