Trust in the Lord and do good…” “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.” (Ps.37:3,5-6 NIV

This whole Psalm is a definite admonition to not let the evil and wicked of the world consume your thinking.  In our day this challenge from the Bible seems so appropriate.  It seems every way we turn there is violence, fighting, threats and all kinds of turmoil.  Whether in our own country or or other parts of world, strife seems to abound.  The Lord tells us over and over, especially in this Psalm.  Don’t fret! Don’t worry! (37:1,7,8) The Lord reigns!

The Lord also tells us things to do. He tells us to trust him! Again, he is the object of our faith.  Let him deal with the violence and strife in the world, in his time and way, and he will do so! He also encourages, as we trust him, to do good.  As we look to him, God can help us see opportunities to reach out to encourage, serve in practical ways and even share with others our faith in Christ.  He is Lord of heaven and earth.  As we commit our way to Christ, trusting him, he will make our life a testimony to lead others in a good and right direction.

Ultimately, Christ is going to win in this world.  He works now as we trust and follow him; doing good, encouraging others and choosing, for ourselves, a lifestyle that points people in the right way.  It is always good to see individuals sincerely encouraging and acting in ways that demonstrate their trust in the one true God and his ultimate triumph. That is what we are called to do.
