“Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters--yes, even his own life--he cannot be my disciple...any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.” (Lu.14:25-26,33 NIV)

Well, this does not seem like good Public Relations! Yet, following Christ is to be a total commitment of our life in choosing his will and purpose for our lives, and then living it out as he leads. Jesus’ heart while among us on earth was: “And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death--even death on a cross.”(Phil.2:8 NIV)

In talking about discipleship,Jesus says this; “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower.  Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it?” (Lu.14:28 NIV)  Someone has said, “God gives you freely all that you need, but it costs everything you have.”  As we choose to trust and follow Christ, God will work in and through us his will.  Is it worth the cost?  Giving up ourselves to him?

Jim Elliott, the Martyred Missionary said,”He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”  This life is temporary, if lived for ourselves, we lose all in the end. If we live a life following Christ, we gain for eternity a life of honor and reward.
What is really worthy of our time, abilities, our life? It is good to stop and consider how we are to live the rest of our lives. What is really valuable, then choose well!
