Jesus humbled himself and became obedient.(Phil.2:8) He finished the work God gave him to do and died on a cross (Jn.17:4,19:30)  Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name.(Phil.2:9)  His exaltation came about because he humbled himself and became obedient. Now Jesus is exalted “far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.(Eph.l:21NIV)

You might say; well, what does that mean to me?  As we mentioned last week, the apostle challenged us to have the attitude of Jesus.  He humbled himself and became obedient.  This is the call to all believers.  Let God’s will be done in your life.  Make this your life’s goal; ending in an eternal exaltation with Christ. “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have obeyed...continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.”

As we choose to humble ourselves before the Lord and obey him, he will lead our lives and work in and through us his will.  God had a plan for each believer.  This is how we work out our salvation.  In so doing, we will be given an abundant entrance into the eternal kingdom. (2Pet.1:11)

Oh!  That is just pie in the sky stuff; some may say.  No, it is God’s calling and plan for everyone that will come to Christ as Lord; humble themselves and follow (obey) him.  In the midst of a world busy with temporary things, God is calling people to Jesus, and building a kingdom that will last forever.  That is something to live for!
